The National Academy of Agricultural Sciences is a think tank that provides a forum to scientists to present their views on critical issues relating to agricultural research, education and extension. The Academy initiated a process of rating/scoring of scientific research journals with the primary objective to bring uniformity in the evaluation of publications by the nominees for Fellowship/ Associateship by different Sectional Committees. Thus the score has been developed for use of National Academy of Agricultural Sciences. Current score of PST journal is 5.44.

She also participates as a member of the WG1 and WG5 of the COST Action CA20138 NEXUSNET: Network on water-energy-food nexus for a low-carbon economy in Europe and beyond. She is an Assistant Professor of Agricultural Engineering and Environmental Science and part of the NatUrIB research group on Urban Greening and Biosystems Engineering at the School of Agricultural Engineering (ETSIA), University of Seville (US), Spain. Professional member of the Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) Observatory in Spain, her main scientific research interests and expertise are in line with innovative urban NBS implementation to facilitate the circular economy system and to cope with major challenges in cities; together with her background in digitalization which supports the concept of introduction of new technologies and developments within a city for its sustainability assessment. Dr. Pineda-Martos has experience in the framework on NBS units and interventions related with the sectors of urban farming (food and biomass production; remediation, treatment, and recovery) and the built environment (vertical greening systems and green roofs; (public) green space).

Plant Systematics/Taxonomy is the basic branch of Botany dealing with the naming, identification and classification of plants. Editor for the Special Issue

Dr. Tapas Chakrabarty, retired as Scientist “D” from Botanical Survey of India, Industrial Section, Indian Museum, Kolkata, in December, 2014. He obtained his Ph.D. from University of Visva-Bharati in 1988 for his revisionary study on Indian Croton. He has also considerable knowledge in other genera of Euphorbiaceae and Phyllanthaceae. He has more than 250 papers to his credit, published in various peer-reviewed journals. He is also the author of three books (e.g. The family Euphorbiaceae in India, Indo-Burmese Phyllanthaceae, Ethnobotany of the Jarawa tribe of Andaman Islands, India). He has special interest on the flora of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, taxonomic revisions and typification of plant names.

Forthcoming (Early Access) Articles - New feature lunched

Plant Science Today journal has launched a new feature "Forthcoming articles or Early Access articles" where the accepted manuscripts are published immediately after layout and proofreading without waiting for an issue date.

The DOI number will be the same for early access articles and when it is added to an issue. This means, when an article is published as an early access article, it will be assigned a DOI number. When a new issue is published (PST has 4 issues in a year), the already published early access article will be shifted to the new issue, but the DOI number remains the same.

Download statistics of the Early access article will be carried forward when it is added to an issue. This means you will not loose any download or even abstract view statistics from your early access version of your article.

Article version number changes. When the early access article is shifted to an issue, it will be assigned a new version and it will be displayed on the journal web page. But this will not affect the PDF copy of your article, which remains the same.

Dr. Yadav is editor of 18 Springer-Nature, 7 Taylor & Francis, 2 Elsevier and 1 Wiley book. Dr. Yadav is editor-in-chief for "Journal of Applied Biology and Biotechnology". Dr. Amrik S. Ahluwalia is Pro Vice Chancellor, Eternal University, Baru Sahib, Himachal Pradesh, India. He is Professor at Department of Botany, Akal College of Basic Sciences. Dr. Ahluwalia has 39 years of teaching and 43 years of research experiences in experimental phycology, algal biofertilizers and biotechnology, algae in aquaculture, food and environmental phycology, allelopathy, Azolla biology, carbon sequestration and biodiesel from microalgae, medicinal plants. Dr. Ahluwalia obtained doctorate in botany from Banaras Hindu University, M.Sc. from Panjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana. In his credit more than 150 national and international publications. Plant Science Today has been selected for indexing in Scopus

Horizon e-Publishing Group has submitted a request in April 2017 for indexing Plant Science Today by Scopus, Elsevier’s abstract and citation database. Currently, Scopus holds nearly 69 million articles from nearly 36,377 journals in top-level subject fields: life sciences, social sciences, physical sciences and health sciences.

The Plant Science Today journal has been evaluated for inclusion in Scopus by the Content Selection & Advisory Board (CSAB). The review of this title is now complete and the CSAB has advised that the title will be accepted for inclusion in Scopus.

Visiting Advanced Joint Research Faculty Scheme (VAJRA)

VAJRA Faculty Scheme is to bring a strong international connect to the R&D ecosystem of India. The scheme offers adjunct / visiting faculty assignments to overseas scientists, faculty members and R&D professionals including Non-resident Indians (NRI) and Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) to undertake high quality collaborative research in Public funded academic and research Institutions of India. VAJRA Faculty will engage in collaborative research in cutting edge areas of science and technology including interdisciplinary areas of priority such as energy, water, health, security, nutrition, materials and manufacturing, etc. with one or more Indian Collaborators.VAJRA Faculty is expected to co-guide research students and may also be involved in technology development, innovation, start ups, etc.

The initial assignment will be for a period of one year extendable to subsequent years based on the collaborative outcome and interest. The residency period of VAJRA Faculty in the host institution would be for a minimum of 1 month and a maximum of 3 months every year. VAJRA Faculty will be provided US$15000 in the first month of residence and US$10000 in each of the subsequent month.

Mini Review Contest 2017

Write a Mini Review and Get $5000 worth publishing credits!

Mini Reviews are short review articles describing research carried out in a specific area. It may be 3 to 5 pages long including references (maximum 3500 words with optionally 1-2 tables/figures).

Prize details

For the best review article selected based on number of citations appear in Google Scholar and number of reads in ResearchGate, we will award $1500 worth publishing credits in our journal, Plant Science Today. This amount can be equally divided among the co-authors of the paper for multi-authored paper.
Besides, consolation prizes will be given away, each worth $100 or more depending on the number of citations.

Submission and Review process

First, submit the Mini Review article similar to any other submission through our manuscript submission system on or before 31 May 2017.
The submission will be sent for review to at least 2 external reviewers.
Acceptance of the paper is subjected to the final decision of the Editor.

Why ORCID is important to researchers?

ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor iD) launched its global, free-to-use registry in 2012 to provide researchers with unique persistent identifiers (ORCID iDs).

Plant Science Today implements ORCID id for the benefit of its authors. Please visit your Profile page to create/add your ORCID id.

ORCID id has several uses:

ORCIDs protects your unique scholarly identity
There are thousands of people per unique surname in China. That’s a lot of “Wang”s! Same for lots of other names.. You’ll probably still need ORCID if you plan to assume your family name, or accidentally omit your middle initial from the byline when submitting a manuscript. ORCID solves the author name problem by giving individuals a unique, 16-digit numeric identification number that lasts over time.

Any type of scholarly output you create, ORCID can handle. Are you a traditional scientists, who writes only papers and the occasional book chapter? ORCID can track ‘em. Are you instead a cutting-edge computational biologist who releases datasets and figures for your thesis, as they are created? ORCID can track that, too.
ORCID is glue for all your research services
You can connect your ORCID account with websites including Web of Science, Figshare, and Impactstory, among many others. Once they’re connected, you can easily push information back and forth between services–meaning that a complete ORCID record will allow you to automatically import the same information to multiple places, rather than having to enter the same information over and over again on different websites.
Journals, funders & institutions are moving to ORCID
Some of the world’s largest publishers, funders, and institutions have adopted ORCID. Over 1000 journals, including publications by PLOS, Nature, and Elsevier, are using ORCID as a way to make it easier for authors to manage their information in manuscript submission systems. Publishing conference papers

For efficient delivery of research findings presented in a conference, speedy publication of the papers based on the conference presentation is inevitable. Plant Science Today starts publishing conference papers from Vol. 4, issue no. 1 (publication date: 1 Jan 2017) onwards.

How it works

The following conditions are applicable for considering a conference paper for publishing in Plant Science Today:

The paper must have accepted for a conference or presented either as oral or poster in a recently held event.
The full paper of the presentation should not be available on the Internet (which would attract plagiarism).
The submitted paper will be subjected to peer review from at least one subject expert and acceptance will be decided by the Editor in Chief based on the recommendation provided by the independent reviewer.
The length of the paper may vary depending on the study. Manuscript may be prepared after consulting the author's instructions. Total number of figures and tables together should not exceed 8.

Article Processing Fees (APC)

The author of the accepted conference paper has to pay 50% of the standard APC (see APC details). More number of figures and tables or multi-page tables or figures would attract additional processing fees.

If a paper is accepted for publication, you will be asked to pay an Article Processing Charges (APC) to cover part of our expenses including those of journal production (copy editing, proof reading, layout preparation, etc), indexing, DOI numbering, online hosting, etc. The APC for all papers submitted after 10 Dec 2016, plus transaction charges, VAT or local taxes where applicable:

Regular APC: US$300

Authors from developing countries: US$150*

Upon submission of an original research paper, authors will be asked to confirm that they take responsibility for payment of the APC. By paying this fee authors are permitted to post the final, published, PDF of their article on a website, blogs, academic or social media sites, institutional repository or other free public server immediately on publication. Chemical Abstracts Service, a not-for-profit division of The American Chemical Society, provides a valuable indexing service to researchers worldwide. We provide pointers to the original literature via our databases and products. We review and intellectually index more than 10,000 major scientific journals and patents from 63 patent authorities, providing pointers to the new and novel science disclosed in them.

CAS provides the bibliographic citation for each journal article selected for inclusion in our product (article title, authors, journal name, issue, pagination, publisher, etc.). This gives our customers enough information to obtain the original article or journal subscription from you. As a value-added service, CAS provides Full Text Options linking services to our mutual customers via SciFinder, any STN product, or CAS electronic products.

In two years, Plant Science Today (ISSN 2348-1900) has rapidly grown into a highly successful journal, publishing over 70 high quality research articles which span all subject areas of plant science.

For this reason, we are looking to expand our Editorial Board.

The extensive team of editors will be responsible for handling submissions through peer review; they will invite reviewers and use the reports to offer advice to the Editor in Chief on accept/reject decisions.

Academies are asked to assess manuscripts for their methodological quality and determine whether the manuscripts add new results to the available body of literature. Plant Science Today will not reject any manuscript because it is of limited interest: as long as it is sound, new, and has passed peer-review then it can be accepted.

Editors should also ensure that manuscripts submitted to Plant Science Today follow all applicable scientific standards, and discipline-specific best practice guidelines. Guidance on handling manuscripts will be provided.

Plant Science Today has an inclusive scope and will consider manuscripts from all disciplines of plant science.

Editorial and Review Board members are listed on our journal homepage.

We would like to inform you that journal Plant Science Today (ISSN 2348-1900) has been successfully evaluated in the evaluation procedure for the ICI Journals Master List 2014, PST journal received the ICV (Index Copernicus Value) of 81.54 points.

The ICV (Index Copernicus Value) is composed of two elements:

Quality of scientific journal, for which a journal may receive up to 100 points,
Impact of scientific journal, for this criterion a journal may receive from 0 to 400 points based on the complex algorithms.

For this year’s evaluation Index Copernicus also calculated a normalized value of the ICV, PST received 7.71 points. The normalized value is used to compare the ICV for 2014 with the indexes from previous years.

Inviting proposals for Special Section in Plant Science Today

Invite proposals for Special Sections in upcoming issues of Plant Science Today (Volume 3 - issues 1 to 4, publishing in 2016, January to December) from academicians and researchers having adequate expertise in their area of specialization.

The main emphasis of a Special Section is on gaining a deeper comprehension of the topic of interest. Any single issue of the journal can have one or more such special sections. The current issue,viz. Vol. 2(4) has a Special Section on Bryophytes* (Guest Editor: Dr. Afroz Alam and assisted by Dr. Dipjyoti Chakraborty of Banasthali University, Rajasthan, India).

You may propose a Special Section and submit justification for the same in not more than 100 words. If you can't handle the Section by yourself, you may suggest name(s) of Guest Editors to handle the manuscripts received.

Please note:-

A Special Section should contain 6-8 articles and each article is restricted to maximum of 6000-7000 words.

Guest Editors need to undertake to have final copy to the Editors. For this, initially they have to examine the suitability of the submitted paper to be considered under the special section and if found unsuitable, advise the author to submit the same as a standard research paper in Plant Science Today. PST is selected for indexing by CABI

We are pleased to announce that Plant Science Today has been selected for indexing by CABI for listing in their CAB Abstracts database.

CAB International is a not-for-profit, international treaty organisation, dedicated to the dissemination of scientific knowledge. CABI produce two abstract databases in the applied life sciences: CAB Abstracts (agriculture, crop science, natural resources, animal and human sciences) and Global Health (dedicated to public health, food science and nutrition). CAB International has a long established reputation in the applied life sciences, having begun indexing scientific literature in 1913. This extensive archive is currently being made available in electronic form.

In addition to now being indexed by CAB Abstracts, Plant Science Today is also indexed in AGRIS, Google Scholar, Citefactor, BASE, Agro-Know Stem, OAL, Advanced Science Index, J-Gate, Mendeley, OAI, ResearchGate, HINARI and AGORA.

Two successful years and upcoming changes

The Plant Science Today journal will be completing two years of successful publication soon. As most of you know, the journal started publishing in 1st January 2014. The 4th issue of the 2nd volume will be publishing on 1st October 2015. The upcoming changes include:

Author fees will be reinstated for papers published in the Volume 3, issue no. 1 onwards
The Editor in Chief is completing 2 years and will be replaced by another one on 1st January 2016
The members of the Editorial Team will be changed
Having 2 years of successful publication, the journal will be eligible for indexing by many such international agencies

PST selected as AkStem's beta tester from India

The Agro-Know Data Framework (Agro-Stem) is an open and scalable system that aggregates data from various data sources and includes tools that may be used for the storage, organisation, curation, enrichment, analysis, exposure & discovery of data.

Agro-Know want to provide to agriculture, food and forestry journals with a simple and intuitive way to present their content to interested audiences, helping the process of searching and navigating through the publications. They wish to set up a dedicated micro-site that presents access to the publications of a specific journal or publisher.

Plant Science Today had applied for the micro-site.

The time has come to announce our 5 micro-sites beta testers!

Firstly, we would like to thank you all for your warm response to our new service! It has been really difficult to choose between all of you that expressed an interest to our new service, but only five institutions can be our beta testers.

In order to select fairly our beta testers, we decided to set two main criteria: a) metadata completeness and b) the geographical distribution. Regarding the first one, we tried to select those collections that provide rich bibliographic information with high quality metadata. At the same time, we aimed at a variety of geographical coverage. Therefore, we have beta testers from different regions around the world! Europe, Asia, Latin America and North America.

But even with these criteria, it has been really difficult to have our final five selected organizations! For this reason, we decided that all of you that expressed an interest to our new service in this phase, you will be high in the list of our newest services coming in the near future.

And now, we proudly announce our five beta testers:

As the open access movement grows and prospers, more and more repository servers come into being which use the "Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting" (OAI-PMH) for providing their contents. BASE collects, normalises, and indexes these data. BASE provides more than 70 million documents from more than 3,000 sources.

BASE is a registered OAI service provider and contributed to the European project "Digital Repository Infrastructure Vision for European Research" (DRIVER).

In comparison to commercial search engines, BASE is charcterised by the following features:

Plant Science Today has published 75 papers in 2014-15 and they were cited 34 times by other journals (as on 1 January 2016) as evidenced from Google Scholar.

The formula to determine the 2016 impact factor for a journal would be calculated as follows:

A = the number of times articles published in the journal during 2014 and 2015 were cited by other journals during 2016.

B = the number of articles or reviews that were published in the journal during 2014 and 2015.

2016 Impact factor (IF) for a journal = A/B

Hence, the estimated 2016 IF for Plant Science Today = 34/75 = 0.45

AGORA is administered by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN.

During 2014 (Vol. 1 - Nos. 1-4), PST following APA citation output format. But, many of our Authors suggested to adopt a much simplified reference style and accordingly in 2015, we have adopted a new citation output format.

In this background, we are glad to announce promotion of short papers for the January 2015 issue (Vol.2, No.1).

Professor of Crop Science in the Department of Life Sciences, Faculty of Science & Technology at The University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, Prof. Noureddine Benkeblia has been working on food sciences and technologies from 1991. He joined Plant Science Today as honorary Editor-in-Chief in June 2014. Dr. Noureddine Benkeblia has established a record of original research in a wide range of areas including food chemistry, postharvest biology of horticulture crops and plant biochemistry in several countries across the world. His research includes biochemical and physiological parameters of crops including respiratory parameters, sugars and fructans metabolism, as well as technological parameters for crop preservation. His work has appeared in a number of high impact journals, including Food Chemistry, New Phytologist, Journal of Food Biochemistry, Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, Tetrahedron Asymmetry, Postharvest Biology and technology, Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture among others. Professor Benkeblia serves on a number of editorial boards of international scientific journals and is also engaged as a reviewer for over twenty fiev international scientific and high impact journals. He also serves as the Scientific Expert of the United Nation Development Programme (UNDP). He is a member of a number of local and international scientific and professional organizations including the International Society of Horticultural Science (ISHS) and the Jamaica Society for Agricultural Sciences (JAGRIS).

Plant Science Today (ISSN: 2348-1900; DOI: 10.14719/PST) published by Horizon e-Publishing Group is conducting a contest for researchers - of all age groups - from all countries.

Write a Mini Review and Get up to $1000 worth publishing credit!

Mini Reviews are short review articles describing research carried out in a specific area. It may be 3 to 5 pages long including references.

Prize details

For the best review article judged by a panel of experts, we will award $1000 worth publishing credits in our journal, Plant Science Today. At the existing publication fee of $100, the winner can publish 10 papers free of charge.
Besides, 10 consolation prizes will be given away, each worth $100.

Submission and Review process

First, submit the mini review article similar to any other submission through our manuscript submission system.
The submission will be sent for review to at least 3 reviewers.
During evaluation of the paper, reviewers will be asked to submit their recommendation on whether the paper can be accepted or not which is similar to the evaluation of any research paper. If the paper is recommended to accept, it will be published in the journal.

Subject area

Research findings that involve plants or plant products can be submitted to the journal.

Terms & Conditions

Only those mini review papers that are recommended by the peer reviewers will be published in the journal.
In the case of multi-authored papers, the author who submit the paper should mention how to distribute the price value among the co-authors.

The PST Journal will be published as one vulume per year. There will be only one issue per volume. But to avoid delay in publishing the accepted manuscripts, individual items (like research/review papers, book reviews, etc) will be published as soon as they are ready, by adding them to the "current" volume's Table of Contents.
