Plant Systematics/Taxonomy is the basic branch of Botany dealing with the naming, identification and classification of plants. The main objectives of this subject are to describe the Plant Kingdom and to classify it in distinct units. The resulting classification has to reflect phylogenetic relationships between the plant groups. In this age of increased awareness on the importance of conservation of Biodiversity, Plant Systematic studies have gained major importance globally. In order to create awareness in this discipline, a Special issue of the Journal is proposed.

Editor for the Special Issue
Dr. Tapas Chakrabarty, retired as Scientist “D” from Botanical Survey of India, Industrial Section, Indian Museum, Kolkata, in December, 2014. He obtained his Ph.D. from University of Visva-Bharati in 1988 for his revisionary study on Indian Croton. He has also considerable knowledge in other genera of Euphorbiaceae and Phyllanthaceae. He has more than 250 papers to his credit, published in various peer-reviewed journals. He is also the author of three books (e.g. The family Euphorbiaceae in India, Indo-Burmese Phyllanthaceae, Ethnobotany of the Jarawa tribe of Andaman Islands, India). He has special interest on the flora of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, taxonomic revisions and typification of plant names.
