Angiospermic diversity & medicinal plants of Tegur village, Dharwad, Karnataka

Abstract

Diversity of angiosperms at regional level is important to locate the plants easily which is necessary aspect for conservation of pants. Tegur is a village in Dharwad taluk in Dharwad district of Karnataka, India. It is towards Belgaum Division. Tegur is surrounded by Bylahongal taluk towards North, Haliyal taluk towards South, Khanapur taluk towards west, Hubli taluk towards east. It is covered by small hillocks with scrubby vegetation having moist deciduous forests. Phytodiversity of angiosperms at Tegur Village, Dharwad recorded 304 species of angiosperms of 66 different families. And habit wise distribution of plants reports herbs (149), trees (54), shrubs (44), climbers (53), undershrubs (3), one shrub or tree. Plants used in medicinal (63), vegetables (9), fungicide (1), fruits (12), timber (4), gums (1), ornamental (10) and fibers (4). Dominant families recorded during survey are Fabaceae (42), Poaceae (32), Asteraceae (26), Malvaceae (23) which are diversified families in all the vegetation. Recorded 63 medicinal plants based on secondary literature which is very important to conserve the Tegur village diversity. Habenaria plantaginea Lindl. (Orchidaceae) and Ceropegia hirsuta Wight & Arn. (Apocynaceae) are the rare and endemic plants recorded during the survey.
