Abstract

Iphigenia magnifica Ansari & R.S. Rao (Liliales: Colchicaceae), an endemic species of Western Ghats is reported in this communication as a new distributional record for Eastern Ghats from Seshachalam hills of Eastern Ghats, Andhra Pradesh. The present communication provides description of this species along with photographs of habitat, live plant and herbarium specimen, comparison with its allied species, ecology and conservation assessment.

Mr. V. Nagaraju is a Ph.D. Scholar, Department of Botany, Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, working on Green Nanotechnology and focused on the silver nanoparticles effect on seed germination and plant disease control. He completed his M.Sc. in Botany from Rayalaseema University, Kurnool. He traveled widely in Malaysia, and visited University Malaysia Kelantan, under the student exchange programme.

W. Arisdason has been working as a Scientist in Botanical Survey of India since January 2012; presently he holds the designation of Scientist “D” at Southern Regional Centre, Coimbatore. Earlier, he worked as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Botany, Madras Christian College (Autonomous), Chennai, from June 2008 to January 2012. He has been doing research in the field of taxonomy of flowering plants since 1999. He served as an Editorial Assistant for Rheedea, the official Journal of Indian Association for Angiosperm Taxonomy (ISSN 0971–2313), Volumes 19 to 22, from 2009 to 2012, and one of the editors of Silver Jubilee Special Volume of Rheedea 26 (Issues 1 and 2), 2016, and Volume 27 (Issues 1 and 2), 2017. He also served as an Editorial Assistant of Nelumbo (earlier as Bulletin of the Botanical Survey of India) for Volume 54 (2012); 55 (2013). He is one of the subject editors of Journal of Economic and Taxonomic Botany. Reviewing articles for various Indian and foreign journals; rendering the service for Plant Science Today since February 2019. He was one of the assessors of IUCN (2010–2011), and assessed the threat status of 16 flowering plant species. He has authored/co-authored 10 books and 15 chapters in books, and published 65 research articles in various peer-reviewed journals to his credit.
