This report presents a data-driven analysis of Rajasthan's pulse crop scenario and enumerates the characteristics of varieties, with a focus on production patterns from 2022 to 2024 and varietal development over a longer time span from 2007 to 2024. Using secondary data collected from various government publications, research institutions and agricultural databases, the study examines the variety, release and field acceptance of significant pulse crops, including chickpea, lentil, mungbean, urdbean and pigeonpea. The study emphasises the adoption and release of various cultivars in connection to local conditions, as well as their resistance to drought, pests and diseases. To identify new trends and changes in cropping patterns, the research also analyses recent production figures to examine changes in cultivated area, yield levels and overall output during the kharif and rabi seasons. The results address limitations including soil conditions, farmer choice and climate unpredictability and provide insights on how better varieties might boost yield. This study's observations are intended to help academics, extension organisations and policymakers promote resource-efficient and regionally appropriate cultivars. In Rajasthan, strengthening pulse production is especially crucial since it contributes nutritional protein for a predominantly vegetarian population and improves soil fertility through nitrogen fixation. Ultimately, our research supports on-going initiatives to strengthen the resilience of Rajasthan's pulse-growing regions, advance sustainable agriculture and increase food security.
